Clash Verge Rev Guide

From installation to daily use — everything you need to configure subscriptions, the system proxy, Tun mode, and nodes in Clash Verge Rev v2.5.7.

Beginner setup order: install the latest build from the download center, import a Clash / Clash Meta subscription, update it until nodes appear, test and choose a stable node, then enable the system proxy. If the node count stays at 0, fix the subscription first; if nodes exist but traffic stays direct, check proxy, port, browser, and Tun settings.

Step 1: Download & install

Clash Verge Rev runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Head to the Download Center and grab the installer for your system — use this site’s download buttons to get the package.

  • Windows: Run the .exe and follow the wizard. If SmartScreen warns you, click "More info → Run anyway".
  • macOS: Open the .dmg and drag the app to Applications. On first launch, if macOS blocks it, allow it under "System Settings → Privacy & Security".
  • Linux: Use sudo dpkg -i for DEB, sudo rpm -i for RPM, or make the AppImage executable and run it.

Not sure which architecture to download or how to clear each OS's warning? See installing on Windows, macOS & Linux; for a full first-run walkthrough, read the beginner guide.

Step 2: Import your subscription

Clash Verge Rev is only a proxy client — it does not include nodes. You'll need a subscription URL (in Clash / Clash Meta format) from your provider.

  • Open the app and go to the "Profiles" page.
  • Paste your subscription URL and click "Import".
  • After importing, click the update button on the profile card to fetch the latest nodes.

Tip: If importing keeps spinning or fails, your current network probably can't reach the subscription URL. Try updating on another network, or set a working update proxy in the profile settings.

More on subscriptions in the blog: how to import a subscription and subscription shows no nodes.

Step 3: Pick a node & turn on the proxy

  • Open the "Proxies" page to see the node groups from your subscription.
  • Select a node manually, or run a "Latency Test" to let the client pick the fastest one.
  • Go to "Settings" and enable "System Proxy" so most apps (like your browser) route through the proxy.

How to pick a node: see testing and choosing nodes.

Step 4: Tun mode (global routing)

Some apps ignore the system proxy (certain CLI tools, games). Enabling "Tun mode" creates a virtual network interface that captures all traffic for true global proxying. The first time you enable it, you'll need to grant admin permission to install the service. More in what Tun mode is and how to enable it.

Handy tips

  • Rule-based routing: The default rules from your provider keep local traffic direct and route overseas traffic through the proxy — no manual setup needed. To customize, see rule-based routing basics.
  • Config override: Use merge / script overrides under "Profiles" to customize rules without editing your provider's original config.
  • WebDAV sync: Configure WebDAV under "Settings → Backup" to sync your config across devices.

Quick FAQ

What is the right setup order for Clash Verge Rev beginners?

Install, import a subscription, update until nodes appear, test and choose a node, then enable the system proxy. This order isolates problems quickly: nodes first, connectivity second, proxy routing last.

Does Clash Verge Rev include nodes?

No. It is a client, not a node provider. You need a compatible subscription URL before the Proxies page can show usable nodes.

Should I use system proxy or Tun mode first?

Use system proxy first for normal browser traffic. Enable Tun mode when games, command-line tools, Telegram Desktop, or other apps bypass the proxy.

Advanced Rule-Based Routing Basics

Snapshot Merge before edits. After Rule/Global toggles, verify with Connections; prefer lean sets over mystery mega lists.

Rules Clash Verge Merge custom rules: write them and fix “not applying”

Keep Merge as small patches. After edits, verify hits in Connections. If rules do not apply, check mode, syntax, and priority before adding more lines.

Rules Clash Verge script extensions: use, failures, risks

Scripts are powerful and risky. Prefer Merge for static exceptions; keep scripts short, understood, and instantly disable-able.

Rules Clash Verge chain/relay proxy setup and instability fixes

Chains can stitch exits but double failure points. Prove each hop alone, then chain; segment-disable when unstable.

Rules Steam downloads direct on Clash Verge (faster games)

Steam downloads often should DIRECT. Patch via Merge, confirm in Connections, and never stack Tun with another game booster.

Advanced DNS Configuration & Leak Prevention

After DNS edits, watch 24 hours. Do not give every device a different DNS story; roll back the snapshot first when things break.

DNS What fake-ip is in Clash Verge (and when to switch)

fake-ip speeds routing with synthetic addresses. If apps break, contrast redir-host and filter LAN domains before reinstalling.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Common Errors and How to Fix Them

Match the check card, then open the article. After upgrade storms, restore backups first and fix subscription → nodes → capture in order.

Troubleshooting Clash Verge Update Check Failed / In-App Update Won’t Finish

A failed update check doesn't mean the client is dead. Compare version strings, then overlay a manual installer.

Troubleshooting Clash Verge Offline After Sleep / Wake: Proxy Stops Working

Offline after lid-close: check whether Connections shows rows. Most cases need a full relaunch or Tun toggle.

Troubleshooting How to Safely Reset Clash Verge Config Without Losing Subscriptions

Copy subscription URLs and Merge before any reset. Reinstalling binaries often leaves a messy user config untouched.

Troubleshooting Clash Verge proxy group blank / no nodes showing

If a group is empty, check total nodes first, then filters and group references. Empty group ≠ dead provider by default.

Troubleshooting Clash Verge core communication error / core failed to start

Kill leftover cores first, then AV/ports, then repair/reinstall the core. Do not blame “communication error” for all-red nodes.

Troubleshooting Clash Verge high memory or CPU usage: what to try

Split UI vs core first. Stop aggressive testing/logging, check Tun and dual clients, then restart or upgrade.

Troubleshooting Proxy Is On but Google, YouTube or ChatGPT Won't Open — Fixes

When Connections has rows but pages fail, check rules/DNS/HTTPS inspection. IP works but domain fails → DNS first, not a client reinstall.

Troubleshooting Clash Verge Port Already in Use

Identify the occupant first. After changing ports, sync system proxy/IDE/phone and write the new port down to prevent repeats.

Diagnostics Read the Logs and Connections Pages to Diagnose Problems Yourself

Connections first, logs second. Capture only the repro time window and redact tokens; map keywords to articles before editing.

Backup Where are Clash Verge config files? Paths, backup, reset

Locate the config directory first, then back up or reset. Subscription URLs and Merge matter more than copying mystery folders blindly.

Backup Clash Verge WebDAV backup setup and failures

WebDAV is great for snapshots, not your only backup. Test a manual upload before automation; keep subscription URLs elsewhere too.
