Clash Verge Rev v2.5.6 Update Notes

On 2026-09-26 Clash Verge Rev published v2.5.6 on GitHub. Versus July’s v2.5.2 (with v2.5.5 in between on Sep 22), this round is mostly service mode, TUN, and subscription-update false failures—not a feature splash. This site’s download center now serves v2.5.6.

Update if you’ve hit “core won’t start without service”, mis-detected isolation breaking service/TUN, “provider update failed” on slow responses, or macOS leaving system proxy pointed at a dead port after the service core dies. New installs should skip 2.5.2.

Release facts

Tag v2.5.6, stable. Get installers from this site’s download center or the GitHub Release. Windows 7 is still unsupported; use fixed_webview2 builds only when WebView2 can’t be installed.

What v2.5.6 fixes

  • Proxy/rule providers: slow responses no longer flip to a blank “update failed”; the real error surfaces.
  • Windows: core failing under normal privileges without service installed; isolation mis-detection blocking service/TUN; leftover service state blocking reinstall (recognizable leftovers are backed up then restored); ~two-minute wait to show the window when the service is already stopped; clearer service security-check failures with a docs link.
  • macOS: rule editor auto-capitalizing the first letter; leftover service processes blocking core start / “continue with Sidecar”; group-resolution failures installing/repairing service; clearer guidance when the home directory is on an external volume; system proxy left on a dead port after the service core dies.
  • Messaging: core start failures and unexpected service-core stops show concrete reasons and remind you after the window recovers.

Also see service mode, TUN start failed, core communication, and subscription update failed.

Also bundled via v2.5.5

Jumping from 2.5.2 to 2.5.6 includes 2.5.5: shared cache paths across subscriptions breaking service-mode core start, DNS override empty/stale/Merge·Script conflicts, first-admin launch ownership issues, missing core after service reinstall, Linux service install still failing TUN, and clearer extend-config editor scope/order hints.

A calm upgrade path

  1. Optional backup (export or WebDAV).
  2. Quit the app; over-install from the download center.
  3. Refresh the subscription, ping a few nodes, confirm System Proxy/Tun still match your habit.
  4. Windows service/TUN still broken: check service status, reinstall when the app asks, then read service mode.
  5. Port mismatches: ports; empty groups: blank groups.

Coming from older builds, skim v2.5.2 / v2.5.1 then jump to v2.5.6. Over-install usually keeps config.

Quick FAQ

Will I lose subscriptions? Usually no—back up first if you ever wiped the config folder.

Separate Mihomo binary? No; use the bundled core.

Windows 7? Dropped since v2.5.1; v2.5.6 targets Win10/11.

Then follow the guide. Windows service/isolation/TUN checks: upgrade checklist. macOS dead proxy / leftovers: offline cleanup. More on the blog.
